General Information about our meetings:
Please read the book, and come prepared to discuss the ways this text has helped your yoga practice. Consider coming with three points for discussion (either questions, important passages, or insights).
Please note that even though we are meeting to discuss the book, if you still want to come and haven’t read the book, we invite you to join us regardless! The great thing about these meetings is that we all have something to share, and we all have a great time discussing how yoga has affected our lives.
Reading Group meetings are completely FREE! You just have to purchase your own book.
The Namaste Yoga Reading Group was organized by Kyla and Cindy in an effort to give students at Namaste Yoga an outlet for discussing the various philosophical underpinnings associated with yoga. We read yoga-related books and discuss the ways the ideas from those books help us in our lives and in our yoga practices.
An important aspect of yoga is svadhyaya, or self-study/self-inquiry. We accomplish svadhyaya by looking to outside texts to give us perspective on our lives.
In the Namaste Yoga Reading Group, we alternate between more traditional texts and more popular texts so that participants get a good balance of technical information with contemporary approaches. Our first book was a fictional novel by Geshe Michael Roach and Christie McNally called How Yoga Works. Our second book was Deborah Adele’s The Yamas and Niyamas, a book on the ethical practices of yoga in terms of how we treat ourselves and how we treat others. Our third book, Breakfast with Buddha, is a novel about an American man on a journey of spiritual self discovery. Our fourth book, the Bhagavad Gita, is the centerpiece of yoga philosophy that explains the importance of yoga in its various manifestations. Our fifth book was Way of the Peaceful Warrior, a novel about mindfulness, right action, and the path necessary to loosen the binds that misperception (avidya) has placed on us throughout our lives.
There is something for everyone during these reading group meetings, so even if you haven’t read the books, please show up and share! We all have something to learn and to give.
Every time we meet, we are collecting donations of gently used or new books or school supplies for K-12 students. We will donate these books to an organization once we have a sufficient amount of donations. Thank you for your support!

I hope to be there sometime soon.
Thank you-
Hi Mary,
Which training are you interested in? The 200 hr. or 500hr.?
They both begin this January.
Blessings,
Linda
This message is for Linda. Kathy Schafer referred me to you regarding a poster that I would be interested in donating to you that I received from the Hindu Temple in Canton, MI. I am an RYT200 and may also be interested in your AYSP program in the future – time and money are factors. I printed the brochure but would like more info on the financial commitment.
Thank you , I am tentatively planning to come in on Thursday November 29 for your 9 am class. I will look forward to meeting you.
