Welcome to Namaste YogaShala! Your passion and your courage to walk this path are honored.

The path of dharma is to live according to your highest purpose in life. The discovery of yoga, and the establishment of a regular practice, is an awakening to an inner Self—a voice, a feeling, a sense—that may leave us feeling exhilarated, peaceful, and hungry for more all at the same time.

There are literally millions of yoga practitioners around the world but some are drawn to follow their path (dharma) deeper into their own true self through study (Svadhya–self study via sacred texts). In many cases we are drawn to share our practice with others.

Class meets every Sunday from 12:30 – 6:00pm and on selected weekends: Saturdays (2pm – 6:00pm) and Sundays (12:30 – 6:00pm). There is room in the schedule for breaks & days off, if needed.

Our Teacher Training Program

At Namaste, we teach you to build a flow from the ground up. Instead of memorizing a flow, you will learn how to build intelligent flows (vinyasa krama) that open, stretch and strengthen your students, in preparation for peak poses. Besides learning how to create flows, you will learn yoga’s rich history, from the perspective of Hatha, as taught by T.K.V. Desikachar. He wrote our primary text, The Heart of Yoga.  Desikachar’s father is Sri T. Krishnamacharya, who is the teacher of BKS Iyengar and Patabi Jois.  This seminal text will  guide us in laying a foundation for the physical practice.  Hatha flows will develop from this study.

Meditation, self-study and pranayama (breathing practices) are crucial parts of the yoga practice. We will cover the rich territory of meditation, keeping journals and talking about our experiences. We will also keep food diaries, to delve deeper into our own self-study, and become more mindful of what we take in. Through Ayurveda, yoga’s sister science, you will learn to best support your own unique constitution. We will learn the importance of breath, and how to use breath to support our yoga practice. Different pranayama can help to relax, energize or balance the body.

Guest teachers will join us to explain and demonstrate anatomy and physiology, arm balances and inversions, chakra centers, prenatal yoga and yin yoga. Our rich program will help you delve deeply into yourself, while gaining an understanding of the many aspects of the yoga practice.

Yoga Philosophy

Wondering what we mean by yoga philosophy? Yoga is much more than just asana: it is a practice that helps you understand your Self and the world we live in. Karma Yoga & Mentoring

To become a registered yoga teacher, you will need five hours of karma yoga and ten hours of mentoring. Karma yoga is the yoga of service. Namaste will help connect you with karma yoga that suits your interests. Our graduates have volunteered with cancer centers, shelters, schools, corporate offices, women’s centers and more.

Namaste will also assist you in finding a mentor. Our teachers have served as mentors to shala students throughout the years. You are also welcome to connect with one of your own teachers, if they are able to take you on. We will talk more about karma yoga and mentoring in the second half of the program.

About Us

We are offering a Yoga Alliance accredited 200 hour training starting in January 4, 2015. Our program runs until June 28, and meets most Sundays and some Saturdays. Pricing and payment plan are available in our course catalog.

Namaste Yoga has been offering teacher training for thirteen of our fifteen years as a community studio in Royal Oak. Hundreds of teachers across metro Detroit, Windsor CA, and this regional part of the country have experienced the opportunity to deepen their practices.

Namaste Yoga is in compliance with the Yoga Alliance for the 200 hour level and 500 hour level training. At the completion of the 200 hr. program students will be eligible for national registration with the Yoga Alliance.
