Elaine Bemiss

RYT-200

A rare personal tragedy happened to me in 1997 and later that year a miracle also happened. I took my first yoga class at Center for Yoga and finally came out of self-imposed darkness. I was learning about the magic of breath and what we must do to stay on a positive forward path through life. That all changed after my first yoga class. It was clear then that I knew someday I would teach to share what I have learned about breath work we must do to sustain our Prana through-out the ups/downs of life.

In 2002, through Jonny Kest, at the Center for Yoga, I was led to the path of Vipassana Meditation, as taught by SJ Goenka. This is a 10-day silent retreat which served to deepen my yoga practice and improves my day-to-day life. The most important take away from Vipassana and something I teach, is to “Accept things the way they are and not how we want them to be.”

In 2008 I completed my 200 hr. Yoga Alliance Teacher Training course under Katherine Austin, owner of Karma Yoga. This happened after a 25 yr. career in the telecommunications industry. At the same time in 2008 I studied Reiki levels 1 & 2 under William L. Rand and still enjoy freelance teaching as a Yoga teacher and Reiki practitioner.
